What opportunities for project based learning currently exist within your department? There are few opportunities for project based learning due to current pacing guide and curriculum. If your asking about the opportunities to include and design lessons supporting project based learning based on the current curriculum content, I think we could collaborate and design a project for each unit.
What opportunities does project based learning provide for our students? Students are able to learn hands on, then demonstrate their knowledge or performance learning through trial and error. Students will retain information learned through investigations and performance.
What potential weaknesses exist in this approach to education? Potential weakness can occur due to teacher awareness, training and design of the project based unit. A teacher can not expect to present a project without a lot of planning, structure, expectations and guidelines. Project based learning does not just happen. Students need to fully understand what is expected and what a project will look like. Students that have little direction or motivation and organizational skills can also have problems. Students need to have good communication, team building and technology skills. They will need to know how to collaborate, share work, contribute appropriately. Teachers will need training.
5.2 Teaching Strategy: Students as presenters
There are multiple opportunities for our students to present their knowledge. It can be the culmination of a project based learning project, an after reading activity or an assessment. Either way, technology can be used to enhance a student's ability to present their knowledge. 5.3 Introduction to Glogster
Glogster could be used a visual representation of material learned or a talking poster. It is truly like a paper version of a page in their notebooks brought to life through their own representation and use of the media.
